The RoofCAD 6 update does not update your RoofCAD 5 install. It is a completely new install of a completely new product. Your RoofCAD 5 install can still be used if required, however, we recommend that you uninstall it once you have adopted RoofCAD 6. Also note that everytime you start RoofCAD 5 it will tell you there is a RoofCAD upgrade. Just click the No button when this comes up. It will, of course, no longer happen once RoofCAD 5 is uninstalled.

- Current Roof checkbox no longer on the Smart Object Browser; Functionality is replaced by Roof Selector.
- Smart Object Templates are selectively enabled according to selected roof.
- There are now user-customizable Groups & Categories for Smart Object Templates in the browser; In legacy Smart Object Template files, headings starting with *** are read as Groups and other headings are read as Categories.
- "No Roof" Smart Objects are no longer allowed. A Current Roof *must* be set before assigning/drawing a Smart Object.
- A Smart Object's totals will only appear under a single roof, even if it physically overlaps another roof. (ie a Gas Line that overlaps 2 roofs will no longer have its length divided up between the roofs on the Take Off Record.)
- A roof may no longer be "owned" by another roof. Sections can be used in the Take Off Record to give the same appearance as a roof-owned-roof in old RC. Legacy drawings containing roof-owned roofs will have Sections generated for them.
- Text may now be used as a Smart Object. Any Smart Object that can be a symbol can also be text.
- All symbol library management is now drawn from right-click menus in the browser.
- New "Replace in Drawing" feature.
- All .sbl files found in the designated library folder are displayed as a node in the browser.
- All symbol library management is now drawn directly from right-click menus in the browser.
- New "Replace in Drawing" feature.
- Take Off Record is now a tree-style grid.
- You now have the ability to expand take off columns.
- Sections functionality has become a part of the Takeoff Record. Clicking the Edit button in lower left button bar in the Takeoff Record. Will bring up dialog for creating/managing Sections.
- Takeoff Record can now be exported as an Excel spreadsheet.
- Properties dialog is now on a fly out tab accessible by simply placing your mouse over the tab, it is also lockable into the open position.
- Multiple selected Smart Objects are displayed in a tree, grouped by name.
- If segments are selected, the outline SO is shown as well as the segment SOs.
- You can set Smart Objects properties either individually or for all Smart Objects under a node.
- Eplan images can now be resized, placed and rotated however the user wants. Use Edit Eplan menu option to "select" eplan for dragging, resizing & rotation.
- New "Align to Drawing" menu option – makes it easy to realign an eplan with an existing drawing.
- "Fit to Frame" feature allows user to trace a frame on the drawing and workspace will be scaled and shifted to fit. Drawing scale is adjusted.
- "Align to Page" and "Align to Drawing" are similar to the corresponding ePlan features. Drawing scale is not affected.
- Define workspace dialog now has a "Fit to Page" check box (defaults to checked).
- "Align to Point": user clicks a point on the drawing and workspace is shifted to align top left corner with the point.
- User must explicitly "Open Session" from the drawing he wants to dig in. This is so that the digitizer knows to use the drawing's saved digitizer document scale (if there is one). When the session is opened, the workspace is outlined in green on the page.
- Digitizer document scale and location of workspace on drawing is now saved as part of the drawing. If the digitizer workspace has not changed, when a user Opens a digitizer session on a drawing that they previously worked on, they will not need to redefine scale, or reposition the workspace – they will be ready to go right away.
- Define workspace dialog now has a "Fit to Page" check box (defaults to checked). If they *have* to redefine the workspace, but don't want the drawing scale to change to fit to page (ie they are going to align the workspace with the existing drawing), they need a way to do this.
- No message on startup if wintab is not installed (but will notify when they open connection from Dig menu.)
- Improved rubber banding (cleaner, clearer), especially over eplans.

- Improved refreshing, less choppy.
- Export as Graphic now includes a Key Plan option.
- Edit Roof option under Edit menu – opens selected roof outline or Current Roof in LW.
- New Offset Tool. Specify an offset distance, click on line or arc, then click to one side of it; A new line/arc will be generated at the specified offset. If the new line is inside a closed poly, it will be trimmed to the nearest intersection outline segments.
- Lengths are now displayed to the fraction of an inch in LW & Graphic/SO property grids. There is a new drawing setting as to whether dimensions on the drawing will display fractional inches.
- Saving while format layer is current warning.
- Importing AutoCad drawing now automatically opens a new drawing, creates and new layer named DWG and moves all drawing contents to that layer and removes all of the now empty un-needed layers.
- Move to layer command.
- Edit roof command.
- Open line layout wizard.
